Position Title: Microbiology Lab Technician

Location: Mediversal Hospital, Patna
Job Summary: The Microbiology Lab Technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests, processing microbiological samples, and assisting in the identification and diagnosis of infections and diseases. This role requires attention to detail, proficiency in laboratory techniques, and adherence to safety and quality control standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sample Collection and Preparation:
- Receive, label, and process microbiological samples, including blood, urine, sputum, stool, and swabs, ensuring proper handling and preservation.
- Prepare culture media and other laboratory reagents as required for microbiological testing.
- Maintain proper documentation of samples and their status.
- Laboratory Testing:
- Perform routine and specialized microbiological tests such as bacterial, fungal, viral cultures, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- Prepare slides for microscopy (e.g., Gram stain, Ziehl-Neelsen stain) and other diagnostic procedures.
- Operate laboratory equipment, including incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, and automated identification systems.
- Perform biochemical and serological tests to identify pathogens.
- Identification of Microorganisms:
- Isolate and identify bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms from patient samples.
- Record and analyze results, interpreting them according to laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Assist in the identification of antibiotic-resistant organisms and report findings accurately.
- Quality Control and Assurance:
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure it is functioning properly.
- Conduct regular quality control tests on media, reagents, and laboratory equipment.
- Follow laboratory protocols to maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment.
- Ensure proper disposal of biohazardous materials and adherence to infection control practices.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Record test results, observations, and findings accurately and clearly in patient records.
- Generate laboratory reports and communicate critical or abnormal results to the appropriate healthcare providers promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities and equipment maintenance.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials and biological agents safely.
- Adhere to local regulations and guidelines for laboratory practice, including standard operating procedures and infection control measures.
- Ensure that all laboratory procedures are compliant with accreditation standards and laboratory certifications.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with medical and laboratory staff to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions regarding laboratory practices, improvements, and updates.
- Assist in the training of junior lab staff and students, as required.
- Research and Development:
- Stay updated on advances in microbiology techniques and diagnostic methods.
- Participate in research projects or clinical trials related to microbiology and laboratory medicine.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new laboratory testing methods or procedures.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 2-3 years of Exp.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of microbiological techniques, including culture, staining, and identification methods.
- Proficiency in the use of laboratory equipment and diagnostic instruments.
- Understanding of laboratory safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in lab procedures and record-keeping.
- Good communication skills to interact with team members and healthcare providers.
